New podcast begins with Sr. Natalia and Fr. Michael O'Loughlin

Sr. Natalia is the co-host of a new podcast that aired for the first time today, called "What God is Not."  Her co-host is Fr. Michael O'Loughlin, pastor of the Proto-Cathedral of St. Mary Byzantine Catholic Church in Sherman Oaks, California, who formerly participated in the popular Catholic podcast "Catholic Stuff You Should Know," while he was pastor of Holy Protection Byzantine Catholic Church in Denver. Fr. Michael introduced many Roman Catholics to Eastern Catholicism on the "Catholic Stuff" podcast, and now he and Sr. Natalia have begun their own Byzantine podcast, with a conversational style.

The title is a reference to apophatic theology, which is often used in the Eastern Churches to talk about God by saying what He is not rather than trying to use our limited language and understanding to define what He actually is. For example, words such as "immeasurable" and "incomprehensible" are used in the Liturgy. We hope you enjoy the podcast!

  1. Just wanted to say I really enjoyed Episode one and am really looking forward to the next one. The two of you really conveyed the joy and beauty of worshipping Christ in the Byzantine Liturgy and I hope your podcast really takes off:)

  2. Looking forward to this! I just listened to the podcast with Matt Frad and it was very well done. I love that sister Nathalia takes silent pauses before talking instead of saying "hmmm" or "like"

    1. This is such a hard question!!! I like them for different reasons. Next Gen is amazing, but I'm biased because it's the first one I saw. I was always torn between wanting to marry Data and wanting to marry Picard. OS is great too, mostly because of Spock. But one of the other nuns introduced me to Voyager, so we watch an episode of that about once a month and I'm loving it! The story line, character development, moral questions raised, all so good!

  5. Hi, are you going to be available on iTunes (or whatever it is I use to listen to podcasts on my iPhone)?

  6. Thanks for asking! It should be available on Apple Podcasts eventually. Each platform requires a separate application, and iTunes I think requires four episodes before an application will be accepted. Right now it's available on our Buzzsprout website: https://whatgodisnot.buzzsprout.com/ or on Spotify.
